PANAMA CITY — Police on Wednesday arrested a Panama City man on more than four thousand counts of owning child porn.
David Kenison Keyser, 51, of 3913 Pisa Drive, was facing 4,439 counts of possession of child pornography, one count for each file investigators say he had stored in his Aztec Villa apartment, unit G2.
Asked if the vast number of counts was uncommon, police Sgt. Jeff Becker said, “I don't know that we've worked a lot of these cases, but I'd guess that it's probably not unprecedented.
“If you had been collecting it or storing it for a long time, you could easily have 4,500,” said Becker, who described the material as “predominantly photos” but added the evidence was sent to the state Department of Law Enforcement for analysis.
That evidence included computers, CDs, DVDs and zip drives, police said.
The arrest came after police were tipped off, but Becker said case investigators had obtained a warrant quietly.
“It's just not something they brag about until they start to wrap stuff up,” he said.
Investigators haven't identified children in the alleged pornography but Becker said police “don't believe that he was actually taking the pictures himself.”
The agency planned to release more information or hold a press conference Thursday, he said.
Keyser had a limited court record in Bay County, completing traffic school for careless driving and paying a fine for a child restraint violation.
He was being held Wednesday night at the Bay County Jail awaiting his first appearance in court.
