State police said Friday that a Nockamixon man is charged with molesting two young girls at his home, including a 9-year-old he was attempting to adopt.
Edward Albert Miller, 50, faces felony charges of indecent assault, endangering the welfare of children and a misdemeanor charge of corrupting minors.
Miller was arraigned before Ottsville District Judge M. Kay DuBree and set free on $500,000 unsecured bail, police said.
A woman who answered the phone at Miller's residence said there would be no comment on the charges.
Court papers said Miller molested one girl three times while she was between the ages of 9 and 10. The alleged abuse occurred while the girl slept over Miller's house, state police said.
The girl told police she knew Miller because a relative of hers is his neighbor. The girl said she was friendly with Miller's sons and would sleep over at Miller's home, records said.
"She stated she didn't feel safe sleeping at Miller's," Trooper Gregg Dietz, who investigated the case, wrote in a criminal complaint.
The reason for her fear was that Miller would approach her while she slept on a couch, uncover her and rub against her genitals, an affidavit of probable cause said.
Dietz learned Miller had allegedly attempted, in 2002, to adopt a then-9-year-old girl.
Dietz interviewed the girl, who told him that Miller allegedly molested her while she was staying at Miller's home from November 2002 to around February 2003, records said.
The girl, now 17, said Miller would routinely put her to bed and then lay with her touching her "private parts" with his hand, an affidavit of probable cause said. The girl told police that Miller thought she was asleep, said court papers.
These incidents continued until around February 2003 when Miller's wife walked in on the then-9-year-old girl rubbing Miller's stomach while they were in bed together, documents said.
Court records said that approximately a week later the girl was removed from Miller's home and returned to where she currently resides.
The Bucks County District Attorney's Office collaborated on the investigation into Miller with state police, a news release said.
