Elderly Vt man pleads guilty to assaulting girl, 7

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A 74-year-old Vermont man with a history of sexual crimes against minors is likely to spend the rest of his life in jail after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.

In a plea agreement, Alvin Reed of Bennington pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated sexual assault and two other charges were dropped. The state will ask for no more than a 10-year minimum prison sentence, The Rutland Herald reported. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
